Pastor Jim Miller was born and raised in NJ, where he came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a young boy. As he neared graduation from Rutgers University, he sensed the call to pastoral ministry. He joined the staff of FBCM in 1974 as Assistant Pastor, following completion of the Master of Divinity program at Denver Seminary. His duties focused largely on the student ministries of the church, along with regular preaching. Three years later, he became the Senior Pastor. In 2005, Jim was awarded the degree of Doctor of Ministry from Biblical Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. His doctoral dissertation was a case study of how FBCM developed into a multi-cultural church. Jim married his wife Bette in 1973. They have three adult children, and four grandchildren. One of the key verses of Pastor Jim’s ministry has been Matthew 28:19-20. From this verse, he draws three prominent emphases of his ministry: discipleship, preaching Book by Book through the Bible, and world missions. Occasionally he finds time to enjoy model ship building and tinkering with old clocks. He also enjoys playing the trumpet for various ministry opportunities.
Ian is an Ohio native who joined First Baptist’s staff as the Pastor of Student Ministries in June 2011, bringing with him 20 years of experience with students. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Youth Ministries and Bible from Baptist Bible College in Springfield MO. He is currently the Associate Pastor and is working on his Master of Arts in religion with a Pastoral Ministry Cognate from Clark Summit University. Ian has been married to the love of his life, Sara, since 1992. They have three wonderful children: Joshua, Andrew, and Samantha. Ian enjoys spending his free time watching movies, hanging out with his family, reading, and listening to music. It doesn’t get much better than family and friends lounging around the grill in the backyard on a warm summer day. Ian is passionate about people falling desperately in love with Jesus and allowing Him to transform their lives. The type of abandoned life we should want to live for Jesus is clearly illustrated in Matthew 22:37-40 and Galatians 2:20. When we give our lives to Jesus, we die and our life is no longer our own; we are completely and totally in His hands. Our thoughts, words, and actions must belong to Jesus, and Jesus alone.
Director of Worship
Suzanne was born and bred in the Bronx, N.Y. She received a Bachelors degree in Urban Health Management from St. John’s University in Queens, and went on to work in a major hospital in Manhattan for 7 years, get married, and buy a house in Edison, NJ. After commuting to NYC for years, Suzanne found a job in Edison. At this job she met a born again believer who invested in her life and shared the Good News. She gave her life to Jesus in 1994. Suzanne has always been involved in school choruses, church choirs, and community choirs, so when God led her to First Baptist, she quickly began serving in the music ministry, choir, and other church ministries. She joined the staff as the Worship Director in 2007. She has been married to a great guy, Mike, since 1987. They have 2 adult daughters and a cute pooch named Spryte. Her family enjoys the beach, hiking, and camping. Suzanne enjoys playing guitar and piano, has an eye for interior design, upcycles old furniture, and loves Italian food. Her passion is to give God all the praise, honor and glory He deserves, and to see the people of FBCM worship and love their God with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. One of her favorite passages is in John 4, when Jesus is speaking to the woman at the well and says, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” Mind and heart together; true worship – that’s what she is striving for.
Director of Student Ministry
Michael has been a part of this church since he was 2 years old. His family moved here from Pennsylvania in 1993 and has been faithfully serving in different areas of this church ever since. Michael grew up through our Sunday School and Student Ministry programs and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. During a trip to Harvey Cedars Bible Conference in the summer of 2008, Michael received God’s call into full-time ministry and pursued that call to Gordon College, where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Christian Ministries and a minor in Biblical Studies. He began an internship in our Student Ministry in the Fall of 2013, under the mentorship of our then Youth Pastor Ian Dancer. He has since taken on the role of Director of Student Ministries. Michael strives to lead by example as he prepares students to take ownership of their faith and live in obedience to the will of God. He and Emilie married in May 2019.
